oney Lake Plantation can best be described as literally
teeming with wildlife. This 4,700-acre plantation, featuring its
namesake—a spectacular 80-acre spring-fed private lake—is without
a doubt one of the most pristine and beautiful places in North
Florida, and could easily be a state or national park.

The plantation is located within the famous red clay belt that extends from Thomasville, Georgia, to Greenville, Florida, and is a virtual wild-quail hunter’s paradise with its scenic rolling hills, longleaf pines, and native grasses. The prestigious Georgia-Florida Field Trial map notes its location, which is nearby other famous quail hunting plantations, such as Dixie, Pinckney Hill, Pinion Point, and Avalon.

At Honey Lake you can discover an enormous diversity of habitat and wildlife not found on most plantations. In addition to its upland red-clay-hills habitat, it incorporates some 3½ miles of the Little Aucilla River, which is without question one of the most unspoiled waterways in Florida and is the primary tributary to the Aucilla River.

Fishing is spectacular in Honey Lake proper and in all of our six well-stocked complementary fish ponds. There is also excellent river and natural pond fishing to those who desire adventure in that domain. The plantation is a duck hunter’s delight, offering great shooting in its natural river swamps and Cypress duck ponds, as well as at its three floodable duck ponds. Whitetail deer, wild turkey, dove, quail, and other species are plentiful; and trophies abound, in part because of the gorgeous woods and habitat, but also due to the plantation’s deep abiding commitment to sound wildlife management programs and stringent conservation policies. We plant hundreds of acres of soybeans, peanuts, alfalfa, chufas, corn, wheat, chicory, lablab, and other high-protein crops each year to provide excellent nutrition to the plantation’s wildlife. Additionally, Honey Lake employs a robust supplemental feeding program for various species, including its fish population, on a year-round basis.

The plantation’s professional guides will make your outdoors adventure the trip of a lifetime that others can only dream about. Our guides and sport-shooting instructors are highly experienced, courteous, and professional. They know the plantation like the backs of their hands and to a person are hard working. And although there can never be guarantees when it comes to trophy fair, chase hunts, and fishing adventures, our guides are very determined to provide you with a delightful outdoor experience that will leave with you with fond memories to last a lifetime.

Leaving no stone unturned, Honey Lake employs the foremost and most highly respected wildlife and fisheries biologists in the country. The staff includes famed American Sport Fish−certified scientist Barry Smith for its trophy fishing programs, and Tecomate’s top trophy-whitetail consultant, Rans Thomas, for its whitetail deer program. The plantation also works hand in hand with excellent nonprofit research and conservation organizations such as Tall Timbers, which is directed by famed quail expert Bill Palmer.

During your stay at the resort, we encourage you to allow our chef to prepare at least a portion of your harvest as table fare for you, your family, and guests. We guarantee it to be fit for royalty and that it will literally melt in your mouth. Our Wild Game Processing and Smokehouse will be happy to professionally process and package the balance of your harvest and we’ll even ice it down or quick-freeze it for your return trip home.

If you don’t want to hassle with hauling rods and guns or briar-busting pants, no problem. Our pro shop can outfit you for whatever adventure you wish to engage in. Guns, ammo, fishing rods and reels, cane poles, terminal tackle, bait, clothes, orange vests, hats, archery equipment, boats, kayaks, and other gear can be purchased or rented without ever having to leave the plantation.
